Remember FDNY's 343

The four-fives is the FDNY radio signal for a firefighter who has died in the line of duty. It was sounded 343 times on September 11, 2001. Every climber carries one of these names to the top.

Once all 343 spots are filled, a standby list opens automatically on the same link. Standby cards are never charged unless that climber steps up to participate.

Before You Climb

Frequently asked Questions

01How do I register?+
Sign up through the registration link above. Spots are limited to the first 343 firefighters.
02What do I wear?+
Turnouts at minimum: structure helmet, jacket, and pants. Tool belts are okay. No SCBAs or other tools.
03Registration is full — how do I get on the standby list?+
Use the same registration link and you'll be added automatically. Your card is not charged unless you climb.
04Can non-firefighters register?+
No — the climb is for firefighters only.
05Can I get a refund if I can't make it?+
No refunds. The fee counts as a donation to FDNY's Widow and Orphans Fund, and a standby climber will carry the name in your place.
